"Write to be understood, speak to be heard, read to grow." -Lawrence Clark Powell

Carl Dates is a recent graduate from Roberts Wesleyan College with a B.A. in Communication and Psychology. Whether he is writing articles, poetry, music, or studying culture, he tries to do everything openly and positively.

Carl has spent a semester in Cairo, Egypt studying Islam, Arabic, and Egyptian culture. During his stay in the Middle East, he visited Syria, Jordan, and Turkey. Carl has also spent a month in Israel studying the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, and the major political and religious actors of the region.

In early December, Carl is traveling to Kenya to work at a school in the small coastal village of Mtwapa. His sister, Keela has started a non-profit there and shares Carl's interest of public policy and global culture. You can see the school, Jambo Jipya, and Keela's non-profit at www.reason2smile.org

After Kenya, Carl will be traveling to Ecuador to volunteer at a rural school located in the mountain region. When he returns, Carl will be continuing his education and pursuing a doctoral degree in Rhetorical Theory.

In the meantime, Carl is working on an album of original music entitled "A Line Around The Outside" which is scheduled to be available for online purchase in January. Also, he will be composing articles for Suite 101! Happy writing!
